Running out of propane on a Saturday night, smelling gas near a tank connection, or watching a regulator freeze up during a cold snap are the kinds of moments this category exists for. The 31 businesses listed here all offer some form of after-hours or emergency propane response for Sarasota homes and businesses, covering everything from a dead pool heater in December to a suspected leak that needs a technician on site fast.
What 24/7 emergency propane service actually covers
Most suppliers in this category handle a mix of situations: emergency tank refills when a will-call account runs dry, leak response and shutoff, storm-related outages, appliance failures tied to gas pressure, and reconnecting service after a tank has been bumped or moved. A smaller number also run true round-the-clock dispatch with a live answering service or on-call driver, rather than just a voicemail that gets returned the next business day. That distinction matters more than the marketing copy suggests.
What to check before you call
- Real hours vs. advertised hours: ask whether "24/7" means a live dispatcher or an answering service that queues calls until morning.
- Response time in your zip code: Sarasota, Bradenton, and the barrier islands can have very different drive times from a supplier's yard.
- Emergency call-out fees: these are usually separate from the cost of the propane itself and vary widely by company.
- Licensing and leak protocol: a supplier should be able to explain how they handle a suspected leak, including when they tell you to call the fire department first.
- Whether they service your tank type: some companies only work on tanks they own or lease, not customer-owned tanks from another supplier.
How our scoring works
We rank the suppliers in this category using consistent, published criteria rather than star ratings alone, so a company with a smaller review count but a strong track record on response and pricing transparency isn't buried under one with more volume.
