2. Tractor Supply Co.
4.2 (329 reviews)score 71/100moderate
Tractor Supply's Fruitville Road location draws strong marks for a clean, well-stocked store and staff who go out of their way to help. Propane refill service itself is less consistent, with a meaningful number of reviewers reporting refusals near closing and unpredictable delivery scheduling.
- Knowledgeable, attentive staff
- Clean store with reliably full stock
- Staff assist with loading and outdoor tasks
Watch out: Refill requests have been turned away late in the day, and delivery orders have gone unfulfilled or arrived unpredictably.

3. Suburban Propane
3.9 (217 reviews)score 70/100
Suburban Propane has the largest review base on this list and a business history the company puts at nearly a century in the area. Named staff like Margaret, Heath, and Georgiana earn repeat praise for confirming deliveries ahead of time and being upfront about tank needs, though a smaller group of customers describe unsolicited fill-ups and billing that didn't match the quoted price.
- Staff call to confirm before delivering
- Named technicians build repeat rapport across visits
- Honest assessments of tank fill levels
- Efficient from signup through delivery for most customers
Watch out: Some reviewers report surprise service charges, price swings from $4 to over $8 per gallon, and gauge issues that went unresolved.

4. United Rentals
4.3 (21 reviews)score 64/100
United Rentals draws a smaller but strongly positive set of reviews, with renters describing well-kept equipment, competitive rates, and staff willing to extend themselves to meet deadlines. A few older complaints about last-minute cancellations exist, but more recent feedback points to steadier handling.
- Competitive pricing noted repeatedly
- Staff extend hours to accommodate customers
- Well-maintained equipment
- Online booking cuts down on paperwork
Watch out: With only 21 reviews on record, the sample is thinner than the top names on this list; a couple of older reviews cite reservations cancelled without warning.
Services: propane tank installation, residential propane delivery, commercial industrial propane
5. U-Haul Moving & Storage of North Sarasota
3.8 (139 reviews)score 62/100
This North Sarasota U-Haul location benefits from standout individual staff, especially Aaron, who reviewers single out for patience and professionalism, and the site itself is described as clean and efficient. Service quality varies more with truck rentals than with the propane counter, with some pickup and U-Box tracking complaints pulling the overall picture down.
- Staff like Aaron praised by name for going the extra mile
- Location kept clean and well-organized
- Quick turnaround on rentals and returns
Watch out: Truck interiors aren't always cleaned between rentals, and U-Box container tracking has been unreliable for some customers.
Services: propane tank installation, residential propane delivery, autogas propane cylinder refill, commercial industrial propane
6. Detweiler's Propane Gas Service, Lc
3.9 (58 reviews)score 61/100

- Technicians praised for speed on installs and refills
- Friendly office staff who manage scheduling well
- Rates seen as reasonable next to tank-exchange chains
- Same-day and emergency refill capacity
Watch out: A delivery was refused over lawn conditions, and some customers describe terse communication when chasing project updates or refunds.

7. U-Haul Moving & Storage of South Sarasota
3.5 (209 reviews)score 60/100
This South Sarasota U-Haul location has the largest review volume among the U-Haul entries here, with manager Alicia and technician Aaron called out for solving problems directly. Propane refills and basic service generally go fine, but missed appointments and unexplained charges (overmileage, drop-off fees) show up often enough to weigh down the rating.
- Staff flexible with customer scheduling needs
- Named staff (Aaron, Alicia) resolve issues directly
- Propane refills and basic service run smoothly
- Convenient pairing with truck rental in one stop

8. Midco Petroleum
4.4 (14 reviews)score 56/100
Midco Petroleum built over a decade of loyalty with dependable delivery and emergency hurricane response, and its rating from a small review pool is high. Recent reviews, though, suggest the company may have scaled back or stopped taking new propane accounts, so current availability isn't certain.
- Family-owned with long-standing customer relationships
- Reliable emergency delivery during hurricanes historically
- Refers customers elsewhere when they can't help
Watch out: Some recent reviewers were told the company no longer takes new propane or generator accounts; call ahead to confirm they still serve you, and note the sample is only 14 reviews.

9. Sunoco
3.2 (38 reviews)score 51/100

10. Propane Refill at U-Haul

This U-Haul propane refill point has only one review on record, a five-star mention of fast service, so there isn't enough evidence yet to judge it against the more established names on this list.
- Single review notes fast turnaround
- Published refill pricing
Watch out: Only one review exists, so treat this as an unproven option rather than a track record.
Services: propane tank installation, residential propane delivery, autogas propane cylinder refill, commercial industrial propane
11. Propane Refill at U-Haul

Feedback here is split between just two reviews: one praised quick, accurate service, while the other describes being turned away over a manager's misunderstanding of tank certification rules, forcing a costly detour.
