What automatic delivery and tank monitoring cover
Automatic delivery means your propane supplier tracks your likely usage, based on tank size, degree days, and your household's history, and schedules a refill before you run low. No calling in, no watching a gauge. Tank monitoring takes it further: a wireless sensor mounted on the tank reports the actual fill level to the supplier (and often to an app on your phone), so delivery timing is based on real data instead of an estimate. In Sarasota, where propane feeds pool heaters, generators, ranges, and whole-home backup systems, that difference matters. A generator that idles most of the year can throw off usage estimates badly, which is exactly the case where a monitor earns its keep.
What to check before you sign up
Ask whether the monitor is provided free with a delivery contract or costs extra to buy or lease. Find out who owns the tank (company-owned tanks usually mean cheaper or free equipment but can limit which supplier you use), what the will-call versus automatic policy is if you want to switch back, and how the company handles hurricane-season demand spikes when trucks get backed up. Get the actual per-gallon rate in writing, not just a low teaser price, and ask about tank rental fees, hazmat or delivery surcharges, and minimum annual usage requirements.
